Unexpected Vertical Weekly Layout Ideas for Your Planner

If you've been using a vertical weekly planner layout for a while, you probably know the basics by now — time slots running down the page, tasks organized in columns, maybe a little notes section tucked in the corner. It works. But "works" and "sparks something" aren't always the same thing.

Vertical weekly layouts are one of the most popular planner formats out there — and for good reason. They're flexible, easy to scan, and great for time-blocking. But if your current setup is starting to feel a little stale, you're not alone. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your planning system is shake up the structure entirely.

Here are some unexpected vertical weekly planner ideas I keep coming back to — a little outside the usual setup, genuinely useful, and worth trying whether you're using an A5 planner, a Traveler's Notebook, or anything in between.

Whether you try one or all of these, the best layout is always the one that makes you want to open your planner — so don't be afraid to experiment. If you try any of these, I'd love to see how you make it your own — tag me (IG: @tinygridsco) or send me a DM!
